Delhi has long been known as a cultural and historical hub, with an enormous number of things to see, do, explore (and eat). The problem of plenty is that sometimes, a few lesser-known gems slip through the cracks. We’ve identified a few of these ‘under the radar’ spots in the capital. We’ve done this with the help of history & archaeology lover, curator and overall Delhi expert, Ganeev. Here’s our pick of some offbeat activities and places to visit in Delhi.
Located in Tughlakhabad, this is a sprawling and little-explored haven for nature lovers in the nation’s capital. In a city that often falls prey to drought, old quarries have filled up with groundwater forming stunningly clear lakes. However, while this may seem like the perfect spot for some alone time, Ganeev recommends travelling in a group. Ideally with someone who knows the place well. If you’re really adventurous – make an early morning cycling trip out of it!
Situated right next to the Qutub Minar (yet often looked over), is this picturesque park. Ready-to-please with arches, rose gardens and steeples like Rajon ki Baoli, this is something out of a postcard. To top it off, Ganeev tells us that the park is now open at night as well! What magical views lie in wait? Only those who visit will find out.
Believed to be home to djinns, this is a 14th century fort. However, some elements of the fort that are even older. Built by Feroz Shah Tughlaq, this is yet another Delhi spot that exudes a unique other-worldliness. So make a trip soon!
